MES Expo 2019: Startups as innovation drivers in the mobility sector
Electromobility, driverless cars and interconnected vehicles – the entire mobility sector is facing disruptive change. “In 15 years time a large number of vehicles in urban transport will be electrically powered“, says Olaf Zinne, managing director of the Electric Traction Systems and Vehicles Division and the Contact and Overhead Line Construction Division of the ZVEI platform Smart Mobility. “Providing mobility will increasingly become understood as a service. A vehicle was once a ‘must have’ item, but in 15 years time drivers may well be offered a flat rate mobility plan. Naturally, there will be driverless vehicles then, along with ride-sharing schemes too.”
Innovative ideas are needed to successfully shape the changing face of the mobility sector. That is why a special area for startups is being created at MES Expo, the trade fair for suppliers of electronics for the mobility sector. The Startup Pavilion is where new companies can present their portfolio to industry experts, investors, venture partners and incubators and establish contact with potential business partners. Lisa Höfer, the project manager of MES Expo: ”We are seeing more and more established companies in the mobility sector setting up ventures with startups – the combination of agility and innovation on the one hand and experience and profound industry knowledge on the other paves the way for future business models.”
MES Expo is a platform for exchanging views, obtaining information, monitoring the market and naturally for establishing and cultivating business contacts. Held every two years, it is organised by Messe Berlin and supported by the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) and the German Railway Industry Association (VDB), and will take place from 5 to 7 November on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
